Lyrical fragrances II
The Lyric II page presents a playlist of songs written and composed by Dominique Dupray, a contemporary artist based in Normandy. A composer of contemporary music living in Seine-Maritime, Dupray performs his own works in a baritone vocal range. This selection is a direct continuation of the previous lyric playlist. It opens with a cycle of eight pieces entitled Macabre Chronicles, a coherent collection with a dark and sepulchral atmosphere. The musical writing draws on the conventions of contemporary classical music, while maintaining a dramatic dimension akin to opera. Each piece explores a scene bordering on symbolism and the fantastic, in a style reminiscent of Baudelaire's aesthetic.
These images are not simply a taste for the macabre. They explore memory and disappearance, matter and transformation. The baritone voice carries these texts with gravity, supported by a demanding musical score, sometimes minimalist, sometimes more expansive. The work remains close to opera in its dramatic intensity and sense of atmosphere, without veering into theatrical staging. It is a composer's work where the vocal line, harmonic tension, and poetic density take center stage.
